…and our council is made up of neighbours serving neighbours.
Over the years, I’ve tried to be a good neighbour by volunteering. This includes my 18 year membership in the Baie-D’Urfé Rescue Squad and providing round-the-clock service during the ice storm and torrential rainstorms of 2024, and then becoming a certified instructor in basic life support and psychological first aid.
I served on five council committees, established a supply base and policy for the town’s emergency shelter and set up a stable fund to keep it supplied and up to date. I also add to my volunteer hours the experience on the circulation desk in the library, becoming a Commissioner of Oaths, and even organizing and marshalling the annual Baie-D’Urfé Days parade for the past three years.
We’re all neighbours. We all have homes here, we all pay taxes here; we all share the same parks and roads…..and we all have septic tanks. This is why public relations is the number one item on my platform, because I believe the town needs to put itself more in the shoes of the neighbours we communicate with, and consider how they feel and interpret the notices, letters and announcements prepared by the town, which I believe can only be enhanced by strengthening the communication network and increasing council input.
In my next post I’ll talk about how I see the Council interacting more effectively with citizens.
